Klaviyo WhatsApp Pricing vs Cartsaver (2026)

Klaviyo bills WhatsApp per message from a prepaid Mobile Messaging plan, the same plan that pays for its SMS. The rate depends on the message type and the recipient’s country, and Klaviyo shows the current rates inside your account (Settings > Billing), not on a public price list. Cartsaver is a WhatsApp app for Shopify with published plans from $0 to $349.99 a month; on Scale, Ultra and Elite you send from your own WhatsApp number and pay Meta directly, with no markup.

This comparison is written by Xtnd, the team that makes Cartsaver. We describe Klaviyo from its help center, pricing page, launch post and Shopify App Store listing, checked 2026-11-02.

Klaviyo is an email, SMS and marketing automation platform that added WhatsApp in September 2025. Cartsaver is WhatsApp-first: WhatsApp marketing campaigns for Shopify, cart recovery, order updates and one-tap Cash on Delivery (COD) confirmation, without email.

Klaviyo charges each billable WhatsApp message at a USD rate that depends on the message type (marketing or utility) and the recipient’s country or region, and takes it from your prepaid Mobile Messaging plan. Klaviyo moved Mobile Messaging from credits to these per-message rates starting 13 July 2026; existing paid subscribers move over on their first billing date after 13 August 2026. Klaviyo shows the rates in your account under Settings > Billing; its help center gives no dollar figures.

What is and isn’t billed, according to Klaviyo’s help center:

  • Marketing and utility templates are billed. Meta prices WhatsApp per template message, not per conversation.
  • Meta gives the first 1,000 service messages (replies inside the 24-hour window) per business phone number each month for free.
  • Messages that fail to deliver are not billed, and keyword responses are not billed.
  • Larger Mobile Messaging plans get a lower rate per message.

Accounts not yet moved to per-message pricing still use credits. On those accounts, a WhatsApp marketing message costs, for example, 10 credits to the United Kingdom and 2 credits to India (4 and 1 for a transactional message). These are credits, not dollars.

Cartsaver publishes its plans: Free ($0, 10 WhatsApp / SMS messages a month), Advanced ($9.99), Unlimited ($29.99), Scale ($79.99), Ultra ($159.99) and Elite ($349.99). Stores in Egypt, India and Pakistan get 450 to 60,000 messages a month on the paid plans, and stores elsewhere 150 to 8,000. Confirmations, notifications, reminders and cross-sell messages use that allowance.

On Scale, Ultra and Elite you can connect your own WhatsApp number. Meta then bills the messages sent from it directly to your WhatsApp Business account, at Meta’s own rates, with no Cartsaver markup, and those WhatsApp messages don’t use your Cartsaver allowance. Campaigns add a Cartsaver commission per delivered campaign message: $0.01 on Scale and $0 on Ultra and Elite. See Pricing and Campaigns.

Choose Klaviyo if email is your main channel and you want WhatsApp in the same flows, segments and reports, with one prepaid budget for SMS and WhatsApp. Choose Cartsaver if WhatsApp is the main channel, especially for Cash on Delivery orders, and you want published prices and Meta’s own rates on your own number.

Klaviyo is the better choice if you:

  • already run email and SMS in Klaviyo and want WhatsApp in the same flows and reports;
  • want one tool that picks the channel per customer across email, SMS, push and WhatsApp;
  • want to send a few WhatsApp campaigns without a $79.99 monthly plan: Klaviyo’s free plan includes $5 of mobile messages a month, while Cartsaver campaigns start on Scale;
  • want a live inbox for WhatsApp replies (Cartsaver has auto-replies, not an inbox);
  • value 3,428 reviews and a listing since 2012 over Cartsaver’s 63.

Cartsaver is the better choice if you:

  • sell with Cash on Delivery and want every COD order confirmed with one tap on WhatsApp, with unconfirmed orders flagged or cancelled automatically;
  • want to start without a WhatsApp Business account: Cartsaver sends from its own sender until you connect your number;
  • want published plans, and Meta’s rates with no markup on your own number;
  • want order notifications, cross-sell into the same order, review requests, buy again reminders and an order-status auto-reply in one WhatsApp app;
  • want OTP verification before the order, or Fast Checkout, a one-page COD form;
  • need an admin in Arabic (the Cartsaver listing also lists Hindi and Urdu).

Do I need my own WhatsApp Business account?

Section titled “Do I need my own WhatsApp Business account?”

On Klaviyo, yes. Klaviyo’s setup asks for a Meta Business account and a WhatsApp Business profile (both can be created during setup), your legal business name, address and website, and a phone number you own that can receive a text or call and isn’t your SMS sending number. New WhatsApp Business accounts must be verified within 30 days.

On Cartsaver, no. Order confirmations, notifications and other messages go out from Cartsaver’s WhatsApp sender. Connecting your own number is optional on Scale, Ultra and Elite, and required for campaigns. See Choose a verification channel.

Can I send WhatsApp marketing to customers in the United States?

Section titled “Can I send WhatsApp marketing to customers in the United States?”

Not on any platform for now. Meta stopped delivering WhatsApp marketing template messages to US phone numbers from 1 April 2025, and Klaviyo’s help center says those sends fail with error code 131049. This is Meta’s rule, so it applies to every app on the WhatsApp Business Platform, Cartsaver included.

Yes, for different jobs. A common split is email (and SMS) in Klaviyo, and WhatsApp order confirmation, notifications and cart recovery in Cartsaver. Don’t run the same WhatsApp flow in both apps, or customers get two reminders for one cart. One WhatsApp number can usually be connected to only one provider at a time, so give each app its own number if both send WhatsApp.
